Just about any electrical componant can fail or become unstable when it's hot. Since so much of an '01 vehicle is electronic, you'll have to go back to the basics. You didn't mention whether the starter is cranking the engine, but I'll assume it is otherwise you would have mentioned it specifically. Check to see if the engine is getting fuel when it's hot. If it's getting fuel, check to see if there is spark. If you have fuel and spark and the timing is anywhere near close, the engine should start when it's cranked.
MY 2003 wouldn't start when the anti-theft light was blinking. I had to turn the key on and wait for 10 minutes the light stopped blinking. I turned the key off for 15 seconds then started the car. THIS RESETS THE ANTI-THEFT ONCE. I've had to do this twice. I found that if I dont hold the key to start long enought it thinks I'm trying to steal my own car. This is good because on thief is going to wait ten minutes to steal a car.
