Why does the temperature gage drop in a 2001 Chevy malibu? In: Chevy Malibu |
[Edit] |
try this....
i hope that this will help you; i am also having a problem with my temp but i have been told by a friend that works on race cars that it is 1 of 3 problems.
1. the temperature switch has gone bad(the switch looks like a spark plug, which is just to the left of the thermostat)
2. your thermostat is going bad,(if your car is over heating it is definitely your thermostat! your thermostat is probably the least expensive part on your malibu but is the hardest part to replace!)
3. i was told that there is a temperature relay switch, dealership has to tell you where it is, i unfortuatley have not got that far yet so if you get to the dealership before i do please email me; garydjohnsonjr2003@yahoo.com. good luck.
p.s.
if your car has over 70k miles it will be next to impossible to take the bolts out of the exhaust(this is covering up the thermostat cover). the bolts are rusted and you are liable to break the bolts and then you are super screwed. it might be safer to just have the dealership do it. that way if they break anything they have to repair it!
