Where is the fuse for the cigarette lighter in a 1998 chevy malibu check all fuses in the fuse box and can't seem to locate? In: Chevy Malibu |
[Edit] |
The lighter is often fused with another accessory such as the radio or horn, etc. If it is still not clear take a shortcut and check the power to the lighter with a 12 volt tester (about $4.00). There is a center power lead which should be 12 volts then a ground next to it. Often the well (center)is bad or the ground is loose.
Under the hood on the driver's side is a black box labeled "FUSE RELAY CENTER". Using the round knob, open this box and remove the cover. The cigarette lighter and aux power use fuse #34 in this box. If your box does not have the fuse map on the inside of the lid, face the box from the driver's side of the car with the windshield at your right. There will be several rows of fuses and relays. In the lower left corner of the fuse box as you face it, will be a large green 30 amp fuse in the first row. There will be a large orange 40 amp fuse in the next row. The third row will have slots but no fuses. The next row will have a mini size green 30 amp fuse on the left with a yellow mini-size 20 amp fuse right next to it. This yellow mini-sized 20 amp fuse is the cigarette lighter fuse. If this fuse slot is empty, put a mini -size 20 amp fuse into it for the lighter and auxiliary power plug to work. Just above this fuse in the next row is a large grey square (a relay unit).
