Where is the fuel filter located on a 1998 Jeep Wrangler? |
[Edit] |
My 1998 Jeep Wrangler does not have any in-line filter inside the frame as suggested below. I have checked with the Service Dept. at the local Jeep dealer and also with an independent Auto Parts supplier. Both indicated that there is no separate fuel filter for this particular year - only the screen on the fuel pump and a small bag (both inside the tank).
Answer
In the fuel tank with the sender unit.
Answer
You have an inline fuel filter on the inside of the frame, infront of the rear tire on the driver's side. It has a metal shield/cover that has like 3 small bolts that have to be removed to take off the plate. Once you take off the plate you can see the filter better. It is metal and fairly easy to change. these do need to be changed, especially the newer models with fuel injection. The filter in the fuel tank is a screen to keep crap out of the fuel pump itself.
If you have an older Jeep Wrangler, there are images and instructions on how to change them out located here: http://www.myjeepwrangler.com/fuel-filter.php
