What is the plug wire placement on the HEI ignition cap and standard firing on a 1989 Chevy 350ci?

I think it was to be "post". There are 8 brass or aluminum posts on the top of the distributor that are "fired" by the rotor. The firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. My HEI distributor has number 1 as the first post colockwise past the external plugs and at about 5 o'clock when the timing is set to 10-12 degrees BTDC.

Remove your number one plug attach a cylinder compression gage and rotate your ingénue until the timing mark is 12-12 degrees BTDC (Before top dead sinter) now check the gage if you have compression then your ingénue in on its firing stroke now remove your distributor cap note which brass or aluminum posts the rotor cap is in line with that is the number one position work your way clockwise around the cop. number one is determine win you set the distributor in. you must determine the firing stroke with the compression gage or you coed get it 180 degrees of and it will spit fire and back fire.
