The iPhone was pre-announced in January 2007 at the Macworld Expo keynote address by Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Inc. The announced launch date was "June 2007."
The iPhone went on sale June 29, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. (local time) in the United States. It launched in Great Britain and Germany on November 9, 2007.
The iPhone firmware has been updated several times since its initial launch, the most significant revision being the 1.1.1 update that added the iTunes WiFi Music Store application to the main menu screen. The current version of the iPhone firmware as of late November 2007 is 1.1.2.
