Number 1 plug wire on the distributor cap:
If you visualize an imaginary line down the center of the engine block, number one wire to the distributor cap goes on the furthest position of the distributor cap next to the firewall. Rotation of distributor is clockwise. Another way to determine is to set the engine at TDC and remove the distributor cap and see where the rotor is pointing, at TDC the rotor should be pointing toward number one spark plug wire.
