What is the difference between an 'IT' school and a college or university? |
[Edit] |
Answer
IT schools usually have certificate programs in subjects such as computer programming, medical, auto maintenance, cosmetology. Whereas colleges have Associates, Bachelor, Master, and sometimes Doctor degree programs in many fields such as business, engineering, teaching, law, etc etc etc
Answer
IT schools usually cut out the general education courses (two english classes, language classes, social sciences) that are required for a liberal arts education. They also are lighter on the sciences than a college or university, only making you take science classes that you need to work in your field of choice. You can usually get an IT degree in 2-3 years, while it takes 4 years to get a degree at a college or univesrity. Look out, though, because graduate schools usually won't take someone with an IT degree, so you would have to go to another IT school to get a Master's degree. An IT degree is a good option, however, if you are career minded and just want a degree to make more while you learn hands-on at your job.
