What is the difference between a Ph D degree and a Doctoral Degree in Business Administration? |
[Edit] |
Answer
a Ph.D degree is essentially an advanced degree (Doctoral) in psychology; while a Doctoral Degree in Business Admninstration is only a Doctoral Degree in business Administration. The Ph.D title is not interchangeable with any other profession.
IT ONLY APPLIES TO PSYCHOLOGY!!!
Answer
The Ph.D. is the Doctor of Philosophy degree that is awarded in many different fields, including (but not only) Psychology. It is a research degree that typically requires completion of a unique dissertation. One might earn a Ph.D. in Chemistry, in Biology, in Communication, in Psychology, etc.
There are other doctoral degrees awarded, including the DBA - Doctor of Business Administration, the EdD - Doctor of Education, the PsyD - Doctor of Psychology, and others. These vary in requirements but most are more applied in nature, although usually still require a disseration. The type of degree awarded depends on the program, and the usefullness depends on what you wish to do with it.
Answer
The Ph.D. (although there are SEVERAL exceptions to this rule) is a research degree. The previous post asserting that the Ph.D. is unique to psychology is ludicrous. Perhaps that individual was thinking of the Psy.D. degree, which is in fact understandably unique to psychologists (Doctor of Psychology). The Ph.D. is a Doctor of Philosophy, which can be awarded in virtually any field. The two factors needed for a Ph.D. award are 1) The university has decided that the Ph.D. is the appropriate degree for the career goals espoused in the given program, and 2) The Ph.D. candidate has contributed a meaningful, unique piece of knowledge (usually empirically researched-based, but not always) to their chosen field. However....several degrees (Psy.D., D.S.W., D.P.T., etc.) require a unique contribution to the field, but are given in lieu of a Ph.D. out of recognition that the student is working toward an applied (vs. research-oriented) career in his or her field.
Best of luck!!!!
Answer
A Ph. D degree program is more academic in nature and content while a doctoral degree is more applied (professional). Holders of either degrees can use the "Dr" title. I also agree with the last posting on the subject.
Answer
Ph.D.'s don't only apply to phychology. They can be given out in practically any field, from psychology to engineering to arts.
Generally, they're major research degrees involving long and grueling dissertations...
