What could cause the temperature gage to read at a normal temp while driving but go completely cold when you come to a complete stop?

[Edit]

Diagnostics

Any part of the Temp. gauge curcuit or internal to the gauge could be the fault. The momentem of the vehicle and the forces involved as it comes to a stop would suggest that the wire is either shorting or opening its curcuit as it is moved. You might want to try moving the wire manually and having someone watch the gauge (when worm) to see if the fault occurs. If it does, this may help you pin point the exact location of the fault.

some vehicles have a relay module on the back of the dash gauge if its bad

that will cause this.
