What could be the reason for a high idle rate and the 'check engine light' coming on in a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe? |

Answer
it sound like your static timing is advance, you should have it check .
Mine had a similar problem. It was the engine coolant temperature sensor. It is a $17 part. My husband installed it. I'm not sure how much it would cost for the dealer to install. Mine acted like it was running cold when it was really warm.
my .02 cents
Sounds like a vacuum leak. More air coming into the motor than the computer thinks should be there will throw the light and add fuel to compensate.
