My inside lights dont came on when you open my drivers door?

[Edit]

Answer 1

There could be 3 problems. Number 1: Check to see if you have a switch that enables you to turn off the interior lights. Number 2: You may have a blown fuse. Number 3: The bulbs may be burned out. 4:The door switches are corroded and not grounding properly.

Answer 2 Additional Info

The switch [Number 1] refered to in Answer 1 is an override switch which allows you to prevent the courtesy lights from turning on when the doors are opened. Most vehicles don't have this switch.

There is ANOTHER switch which answer 1 did not mention, AND IT probably is the most common cause of the failure of courtesy lights to turn on. There is one of these switches for each door, and they are located in the door opening, usually on the hinge post jamb.

The switch is usually a plunger type which works on a extend=on/push in=off basis, like the light in your refrigerator. When a door is opened, a spring in the switch pushes the plunger out, closing the switch, turning the courtesy lights on. It is not uncommon for these door switches to "stick" in the off [pushed in] position. There are probably several causes for this failure, but most common is the accumulation of debris from water, road film, and corrosion.

If you're lucky, you can "unstick" the switch, getting the plunger to the extended positon. Usually, this can be accomplished by GENTLY tapping [with the handle of a screwdriver or pliars] on the switch FLANGE and the door post around it, until the plunger slowly vibrates out far enough for you to get a grip on it and pull it to full extension.

In this positon, you can wipe/clean the plunger with a damp cloth. When dry, spray generously with WD-40, or any similar product, to both lubricate the switch "action," and provide a protective film which will reduce or prevent additional fouling from water or road film. Spray closely, trying to get as much product as possible INTO the switch through the crevice between the plunger and flange.

Also, between applications, repeatedly cycle the plunger in and out many times, until it moves freely. Most of the time, this procedure will free the sticking switch, and IF KEPT clean and lubricated, it should never be a problem again.

In the event that you cannot coax the plunger out, then the switch must be removed from the door jamb. As there is a 12 volt "hot" wire attached to the opposite end of these switches, it is recommended that you first disconnect the battery NEGATIVE cable to eliminate the chance of accidently creating a short circuit.

Then to remove the switch, use a "slot bit" screwdriver inserted between the switch flange and the door jamb sheet metal, gently twisting and prying to extract the switch enough to get a grip on it. Then fully extract it from the hole. Following the previous procedure, it will now be easier to unstick and clean the plunger and switch.

IF you disconnect the electric wire(s) connected to the switch, BE VERY CAREFUL TO NOT ALLOW THE WIRE TO SLIP OR "FALL" BACK INTO THE DOOR JAMB !!! If you allow the wire to fall back into the door jamb, you'll have BIG problems extracting it !!!

If you are unable to free the plunger, and return the switch to full operation, then it will be necessary to REPLACE it.
