Answer

Decreases, the heart rate of an adult averages 72 times per minute.

Answer

It can do both! It depends on the person that is older and if they have something wrong with their heart. My own husband has A-Fib (the upper chamber of the heart is pumping fast, but the lower chamber of the heart is pooling blood and could cause clots.) He has to take a medication to slow his heart down and also Warfarin to stop possible clots. Fortunately, there is an operation for this to find one of the many nerves to the heart that is sending the heart wrong signals.
